Former No. 1 NBA draft pick Andrew Wiggins — now with the Warriors — has been slammed by critics for not living up to high expectations with the Timberwolves. Some have pointed out that the forward lacks the work-ethic that would elevate his game. But according to an ex-teammate, Wiggins' nonchalant demeanour is actually just the way he is.

According to Robert Covington of the Portland Trail Blazers (Wiggins' teammate in Minnesota), he was also deceived by Andrew Wiggins'  lackadaisical nature until he saw him get to work.

“That’s just (Andrew) Wiggins’ personality,” Covington said, per Wes Goldberg of Chico Enterprise-Record. “I thought that (too) until I actually saw him go after it.”

Meanwhile, for current teammate Marquese Chriss, he never doubted Andrew Wiggins' efforts.

“It's weird to me that his work ethic is in question,” Warriors center Marquese Chriss said. “I've never seen anything that would make me say that he's not a hard worker.

To recall, before being selected as the first overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft, Andrew Wiggins was already being compared to the likes of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. While he did show some promise in his first three seasons, Wiggins' performance suddenly dwindled in his fourth year. From averaging 23.6 points in his third year, he plummeted to 17.7 points.

Some say this decline from Andrew Wiggins is due to the addition of Jimmy Butler. Since not only did Butler become the team's primary offensive weapon, but the two reportedly did not see eye to eye during their time as teammates.

Be that as it may, while Andrew Wiggins has been slammed by the media, he and his colleagues know he is the real deal. He not only has the talent, but the attitude to become an elite player in the NBA with the Warriors, having learned from his experiences with the Timberwolves.
