SAN FRANCISCO — It has been 921 days since Golden State Warriors star shooting guard Klay Thompson last played. It was back when the team had Kevin Durant and was playing the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 NBA Finals.

Since then, many NBA rules and protocols have changed for the league. But there is one change Draymond Green says will be Thompson's most significant change.

“It’s funny because me and Loon (Kevon Looney) joke about the positioning in the NBA today. We be joking with Klay (Thompson) like this ain’t the NBA you left, brother. You’re coming back, and you’re going to be a stretch forward,” Green told ClutchPoints.

He mentioned this while talking about Otto Porter Jr. starting his career as a 6-foot-9 wing. Now he plays the role of a power forward and center for the Warriors.

“It’s just the way this league works. The point guards that were kind of hybrid guards are now 4s, maybe a 3, but they are not point guards anymore,” Green said.

Gary Payton II is one of those players. He's 6-foot-3, but the Warriors often use him as a big man. He sets a lot of screens and catches lobs in pick-and-roll situations.

Although Thompson will have to adjust to a different style of play, it shouldn't bother the 6-foot-7 Warriors star much. When he returns, his elite shooting ability will give opponents issues just like it did over 900 days ago.

Thompson doesn't have a return date yet, but it appears it will be very soon and likely in early January. The Warriors want it to be a home game so their home crowd can welcome their star back properly.
