Former Golden State Warriors big man David West has spoken out about how he took the news of Kevin Durant leaving the team over the summer.

According to West, who himself spent two championship-winning seasons with the Dubs, he was completely blindsided by Durant's decision to jump ship to the Brooklyn Nets:

“I was,” West said, via Drew Shiller of NBC Sports. “I remember I had spoken to him maybe a couple weeks before the decision. And then obviously had talked throughout the year.

“I just felt like he was in a position to really cement himself — get into that ‘Legend with the Warriors' type thing.

“I still think he's got a great legacy with the Warriors, but I thought it was the one place he might just say, ‘You know what, I'm cool here.' I thought he loved the city, he loved the people.”

West was teammates with Durant during the former's two-season stint with Golden State, and surely, these two were able to form a bond during their time together in Oakland. This is probably why West was shocked upon learning about Durant's decision, all the while thinking that he had some insider knowledge on the former MVP's state of mind.

Right now, Durant is still recovering from the Achilles injury he suffered in last season's NBA Finals. The superstar forward isn't expected to return this season, so we'll have to wait a while before we see him make his Nets debut.
