Draymond Green paid respect to Golden State Warriors legend Jason Richardson on Tuesday as the Dubs celebrated throwback night for a crucial Western Conference matchup against the Denver Nuggets.

Green took the time to explain his decision to honor the former Warriors star, despite the fact that it was originally teammate Stephen Curry's idea:

“I got respect for all those guys that came before me, but this was the one I really wanted to wear,” Draymond said, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “Obviously, the whole thing was Steph’s idea and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s dope!'”

As it turns out, Green swiped the Richardson jersey from Curry's locker, under the argument that Green has more of a connection with Richardson, who happens to be a fellow Michigan State product:

“I feel good wearing this jersey,” Draymond continued. “Obviously being a kid from Saginaw, watching J make it out was big for me and my confidence and my belief. J and LaMarr Woodley, all those guys, watching them and then coming full circle. J-Rich at Michigan State, number 23, Warriors, number 23. It felt good to put this one on today.”

Green helped lift the Warriors to a convincing 116-102 victory against Denver, putting up six points, nine rebounds, nine assists, a steal, and two blocks in 30 minutes of action.

The victory allowed the Warriors to put some distance between themselves and the second-seeded Nuggets, who are now two games behind them in the standings with just five games remaining in the regular season.
