The Golden State Warriors were dealt with a significant blow following news of prized rookie James Wiseman having to undergo surgery on his knee. While his timetable has yet to be determined, the fear is that this is going to be a season-ending injury for the 20-year-old.

Steve Kerr has addressed this recent development, and while the Dubs head coach acknowledged the importance of Wiseman to the team, Kerr also made it clear that they are not panicking (h/t Anthony Slater of The Athletic):

When asked if the Warriors intend to bring in a new player to add some much-needed depth to their frontcourt, Kerr provided a bit of a cryptic response:

“Adding size just for the sake of adding size doesn't accomplish anything,” Kerr said. “But if you can add a good player who can help you win a game, then it matters.”

Kerr then went on to say that he's more than comfortable playing small-ball moving forward. This is a tactic that the Warriors have found so much success with in the past, and Kerr is very much willing to revert back to this style of play.

Wiseman, Golden State's second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, was having a noteworthy debut campaign prior to the injury. The good news here is that he's just 20 and he should be able to recover from this injury without any issues. If he is indeed forced to sit out the remainder of the campaign, we fully expect Wiseman to be ready to go to start the 2021-22 season.
