Warriors’ Kelly Oubre Jr. drops 40 on Luka Doncic, Mavs
Kelly Oubre Jr. put up his best game in a Golden State Warriors jersey and possibly his career at the expense of Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday. The 6-foot-7 swingman erupted for career-best 40 points to lead the Dubs to a 147-116 blowout victory at American Airlines Center.
Oubre Jr. came out hot from the opening tip to the final buzzer, as he shot a magnificent 14-for-21 clip from the field. Golden State rode the 25-year-old’s hot hand, as he got the green light and made seven of his 10 3-pointers, along with eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in 36 minutes.
Here’s the booming triple in the fourth that gave Oubre Jr. his career-high.

Kelly Oubre Jr.’s most recent outing for the Dubs is definitely a good confidence booster for him this season. After being acquired by Golden State in the offseason in the wake of Klay Thompson’s injury, things haven’t exactly clicked for Oubre since moving to Oakland. While his defense remains top-notch, his inability to consistently make his long distance tries have been problematic for the trigger-happy Dubs team.
Entering Thursday’s road game versus the Mavs, Oubre was only averaging 12.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 steals. Moreover, he was only making 37.6 percent of his field goals and a putrid 23.1 percent clip from past the arc. Those numbers will certainly improve after tonight’s performance.
It is worth noting that Oubre has indeed been playing much better for head coach Steve Kerr as of late. He is now allowing the offense to come to him and getting more and more comfortable with the Warriors system.
