Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson believes point guard D'Angelo Russell is just scratching the surface on his potential in the NBA.

Thompson, who is going to miss a big chunk of next season recovering from an ACL tear, says Russell is going to blossom into a superstar in this league:

The Warriors acquired D'Angelo Russell from the Brooklyn Nets as part of the sign-and-trade deal involving Kevin Durant. Last season with the Nets, Russell made his first All-Star team and established himself as one of the best young scorers in the game. The Warriors are excited to see what Stephen Curry and Russell can do together in the backcourt while Klay Thompson rehabs his injury.

Russell, 23, averaged 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists this past season while shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line. Neither Russell nor Curry are good defenders, but both guards can light it up on offense. Once Thompson returns to the lineup, the Warriors will have three guys who can score 20-plus points in their sleep from all areas of the court.

It's unknown when Thompson is going to be ready to play again. The Warriors want their All-Star shooting guard to take his time since ACL injuries are tough to come back from.
