Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers admitted that the Dubs getting into the play-in tournament would already be considered a success for the team this season. However, that pretty much contradicts what Stephen Curry said recently about their playoff goals.

Earlier this March, Curry shared that they absolutely wouldn't want to be in the play-in tournament, where the 7th to 10th seed will play another series of matches to determine the last two teams who will enter the postseason. As it currently stands, the Warriors are sitting on the 10th spot with a 22-23 record in the West.

“We just want to not be in the play-in situation, that’d be helpful,” Stephen Curry said of the Warriors' playoffs seeding, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “Probably best case scenario, with where we are right now, if we could sneak into the fourth seed, that’d be amazing.”

However, in a recent interview, Myers gave his honest thoughts on their situation. While they would certainly want to make the playoffs without the need to fight in the play-in tournament, it is a difficult task given their record and the level of competition in the conference.

“Hopefully, have a chance to compete for the playoffs. … I'd like to believe we can be in that (play-in tournament),” the Warriors exec explained, per Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The fall of the Warriors' expectations are certainly notable. Before the 2020-21 campaign started, they were deemed as title favorites with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson returning healthy. Unfortunately, Klay sustained a torn Achilles that has sidelined him ever since.

After that, the Dubs were still seen as playoff contenders, with many expecting Curry to put up MVP numbers. While Steph has certainly lived up to that expectations, the Dubs struggled and are now just hoping they can get into the playoffs.

Golden State has a difficult journey waiting for them if they want to recover and make the postseason. For what it's worth though, they seem to understand that.
