There were reports about a week ago that revealed desire among the Golden State Warriors big three of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green to leverage their draft assets into a ready-to-roll veteran. But the NBA draft has come and gone, and Golden State now has two additional projects on their roster that already includes one in James Wiseman.

The Warriors had been linked to a number of big stars whose names have been floated around this offseason. Guys like Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, and Ben Simmons have all been photoshopped vigorously into Golden State colors amid all the speculation. But it appears as though the rumored wishes of Stephen Curry & Co. are falling on deaf ears.

Warriors own Joe Lacob sat down with The Athletic's Anthony Slater to discuss the outlook for the team this coming season, and beyond. Slater asked Lacob a compelling final question about the Dubs' ability to contend for a title this season.

“If we can’t, then you should look at Joe Lacob and Bob Myers and Steph Curry and Klay Thompson and Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins and say you weren’t good enough,” the Warriors owner said.

“You’re paying all that money you weren’t good enough. They need to be good enough and they should be. They’ve won before. They’re a little older, but they’re still really good. Klay will be back. That’s the key. I think we’ll be good enough. Yes.”

Lacob did emphasize that the Warriors would be going after veterans in free agency. However, for them to preserve all their assets for the future while there's still very much a present with Curry still in his prime is definitely perplexing.

We had just witnessed the Los Angeles Lakers go for absolute broke to please LeBron James, a man who despite winning a title for LA, has only been there for three seasons. It's an odd juxtaposition to see the Warriors, who still have their core for nearly a decade intact, refusing to do the same.

Do the Warriors have the talent to win the title next season? With Stephen Curry and a returning Klay Thompson, anything is possible. But you can't exactly say this roster has been maximized to win now.
