On Wednesday, the Golden State Warriors demolished John Wall and the Washington Wizards 144-122  behind an utterly marvelous performance from Stephen Curry. The former back-to-back MVP winner dropped a cool 51 points in front of an astonished Oracle Arena crowd.

What made this feat even more amazing is the fact that Curry did all the damage in just three quarters, as head coach Steve Kerr opted to rest his star for the duration of the fourth and final frame.

When asked if he had regrets over not being able to play in the fourth — and potentially better his career-54 points set back in 2013 — Curry claimed he was happy to sit out the remainder of the blowout game.

“Not at all, not at all,” Stephen Curry said, per Sam Amick of The Athletic. “But now I know what Klay Thompson feels like, except I didn’t have as many points as he did. (when Thompson scored a career-high 60 points in three quarters against Indiana on Dec. 5, 2016).”

According to Curry, he was fully aware of the situation, and that he and coach Kerr had the bigger picture in mind.

“We actually had no conversations at all (about going back in). You don’t mess with the basketball gods in terms of pushing things beyond what they need to be, especially in game five of the regular season.”

Stephen Curry's early-season performances are reminiscent of his MVP-winning season in 2015-16. In the first five games of the new campaign, the three-time NBA champ is averaging a jaw-dropping 34.6 points (second in the league) on 55.5 percent shooting, 6.6 3-pointers (No. 1 in the league), 4.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and a steal. Just wow.
