While almost everyone is already giving Nikola Jokic the MVP award, Golden State Warriors star  Stephen Curry comes saying “hold up.”

After a brilliant performance over the past few weeks that has propelled the Warriors to the play-in tournament as the eighth seed, Curry received the Player of the Month honor for the Western Conference. Russell Westbrook won it for the East after leading the Washington Wizards to the Top 8 as well.

Interestingly, the latest feat brought up an interesting twist in the MVP race. After all, Stephen Curry now has two Player of the  Month awards, the same number as Nikola Jokic's.

The Denver Nuggets star won it in January and March, while the Warriors sharpshooter got his first back in April. It's basically a tale of two halves, with Jokic dominating the first part of the season before Curry took over and torched every opponent on the way with his high-scoring spree.

Brooklyn Nets guard James Harden is the only other player with two Player of the Month awards, but he hasn't really made a strong case after playing just 44 games in the regular season. He had an18-game absence that stretched from over a month, basically putting him out of consideration.

For what it's worth, when Giannis Antetokounmpo won the MVP award last season, he bagged three Player of the Month honors–the most by any player in the offseason.

Of course, the award is not exactly part of the criteria for the MVP. It's still up to the media and the benchmark they have set for voting.

Jokic is a model of consistency, having played all 72 games and leading his Nuggets on a daily basis. Meanwhile, Curry's shocked everyone with his explosive scoring and brought excitement day  in and day out by setting and breaking records. Denver has the advantage in terms of wins, but one can say that Golden State is technically a playoff team.

It won't be long until the media cast their MVP votes, so the wait and debate should be over real soon as well.
