Now in his 12th season in the NBA, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has reached the point in his storied career where he is setting milestones and rewriting the record books. One of those records is the Warriors’ all-time scoring record owned by Wilt Chamberlain.

After a 37-point effort in the Warriors' 117-111 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, Curry needs just 129 points to surpass Chamberlain and be the Dubs’ all-time scoring leader. Speaking to reporters after the game, the 33-year-old guard said that it was a surreal feeling to even come close to Chamberlain’s 17,783 career points with Golden State:

“That's surreal to be honest, I don't know how many years he played here but he's got a lot of buckets,” Curry said, per Alex Didion of NBC Sports Bay Area. “Obviously he's a legend and remains across the whole league, but obviously wearing a Warriors uniform and having been here my whole career, it's pretty crazy, so I got a couple more points to score, hopefully some more wins in the process, but it is a wild just thought in general.”

The two-time MVP added that when the moment comes, he will appreciate it, and joked that he was glad the 3-point line wasn’t around during Chamberlain’s time or he’d probably have more points.

The three-time champion recently returned to the team’s lineup after suffering a tailbone injury a few weeks ago, but couldn’t prevent the Warriors from falling to the Hawks, which was their seventh loss in their last eight games. But even during a challenging season, there is still reason for celebration for Curry, who is only a few games away from owning another significant milestone in a career full of them.
