The Golden State Warriors are no longer the gold standard when it comes to top-tier basketball teams. Steve Kerr lost a lot of important players this offseason, and it was made worse with the injury to Stephen Curry.

However, this fact doesn't mean that the team is not going to compete for the NBA title. Kerr is determined to lead the team despite the absences of Curry and Klay Thompson and win as many games as they can in a crowded Western Conference.

Kerr's latest statement is consistent with his overarching narrative this season that the Dubs are no longer the title contenders they once were five years ago.

Their season started on the wrong foot as they lost to teams that they easily won against last season. Moreover, the situation was aggravated by Curry's hand injury. The former MVP will be sitting out for at least three months in order to rehabilitate his broken hand — which means he will miss at least 45 games.

Kerr is already making moves to ensure that he won't end up with a depleted lineup. He revealed their plan to manage Draymond Green's minutes, as he's the only healthy player remaining from their championship core. He's also doing everything he can to accelerate D'Angelo Russell's acclimation to the Warriors' way of playing basketball.

Of course, there's still a possibility that D'Lo will be traded, but his offensive prowess is something the Warriors desperately need at the moment.

It has already been a challenging season for Warriors fans, and they can only hope that things get better from this point on.
