Draymond Green and Marcus Smart may be playing different positions, but for Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, they have a lot of similarities. In fact, Kerr called Smart the “guard version” of Green.

Of course it is easy to see where Kerr is coming from. Both players are defensive juggernauts, and while what they do sometimes cannot be seen on the stat sheet, they make a massive impact every time they are on the floor.

Some might even see the similarities in their personalities. They are bot vocal leaders who play with grit and tenacity. Put simply, they are the heart and soul of their respective teams.

Kerr broke down in detail why he sees a ton of Draymond in Smart, especially the way they think and how they approach defense.

“His strength and his anticipation, he’s got an incredible feel for the game at that end,” the Warriors coach said Monday, per NBC Sports. “He’s like the guard version of Draymond. He’s reading angles, he’s guarding all five positions, if he switches on to a five man, he’s so strong, he can hold them off. He’s quick enough to chase point guards around, big enough to guard wings so he can literally guard 1-5 in the modern game. He’s appropriately named, very smart player and really versatile and great, great defender.”

It will definitely be interesting to see how Marcus Smart and Draymond Green make a difference for the Celtics and Warriors, respectively, come the NBA Finals.

Of course Smart will primarily be tasked guarding Stephen Curry, while Green anchors the Warriors' perimeter defense. While their roles will be different, there is no doubt their teams will lean on them to win each and every game.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals starts Thursday at Chase Center.
