The Washington Football Team's head athletic trainer is on administrative leave after federal law enforcement executed a search warrant at the team's training facility and a nearby home last Friday, according to NBC Washington.

Washington officially announced that director of sports medicine and head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion is on leave “due to an ongoing criminal investigation that is unrelated to the team.”

Vermillion is in his second season with Washington. He previously worked for the Carolina Panthers for 18 years and spent nine seasons with current Washington coach Ron Rivera in Carolina.

River initially didn't offer up too much on the matter when asked about it, but he did give a little more later:

It's not yet clear just what the raid was for, but residents in a townhome complex in Loudon County said they saw multiple United States Drug Enforcement Administration agents. That at least offers up a small hint at what was going on here, but specific details are scarce at the moment.

Rivera is hoping this won't be too much of a distraction for his team after a thrilling victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, but this sure seems like it's going to be a pretty big story. The head trainer being caught up in a criminal investigation isn't good no matter what, even if it's not related to the team.
