After Sony's absence at this year's E3, PlayStation fans are eagerly looking forward to what the platform has in store. The PlayStation 5 is finally hitting its stride, and a lot of exciting games are just over the horizon.

When is the next State of Play?

While Sony has yet to announce an official date for their next State of Play, Resetera user, Navtra, teased that fans only had a short wait before we find out more. They have been a reliable leaker in the past, but we should still take everything with a grain of salt. The rumored date for the next State of Play is July 8 – only a few days from now.

Which PlayStation Studios games can we expect to see?

If the rumors are true, then what can we expect from the next State of Play? The most recent one heavily featured Horizon: Forbidden West. There, they showed off the new environments and traversal features, alongside a lengthy combat clip. Horizon: Forbidden West is also the next upcoming full release for PlayStation studios. Taking that into account, we can safely expect to see more of it.

The recently announced Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut is also another likely candidate. It will feature graphical improvements for the PS5 version, and an expanded zone and story featuring Iki Island. This upgraded version of the game is set to release on August 20. If any State of Play is going to happen this July, it will most likely be part of the show.

XboxEra.com founder and industry insider Shpeshal_Nick also hinted at the new God of War possibly being shown off:

Details have been sparse on the sequel, so any new information will surely excite fans. For now, all we know is that it will also be available on PS4 and that it was delayed to 2022. Oh, and of course, the ominous words “Ragnarök is coming” from the teaser trailer.

Will we see any third-party titles?

Aside from the PlayStation Studios titles, we can also look to the third-party exclusive titles in the Sony stable. Final Fantasy VII Remake recently released its Intergrade DLC, so perhaps we can look forward to seeing some news about Part 2. The FFVII Remake did extend its PlayStation exclusivity by 6 months after all.

Another possible candidate for the next State of Play is Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding: Director's Cut. It was announced at the Summer Game Fest last month and shows off some Metal Gear Solid references. Presenter Geoff Keighley also mentioned that the game's full reveal “is just weeks away.” This fits into the rumored timeline.

Forspoken, from Square Enix studio Luminous Productions, is another title that might show up. We've only seen glimpses of it in its trailer, but the smooth traversal and blend of magical and modern elements are sure to win some fans. Currently, the game is a PlayStation 5 exclusive slated for a 2022 release.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits an action-adventure game from Ember Lab, might also show in a State of Play event. It's a PlayStation console exclusive set to release on August 24, so it makes sense to show off more of the game as the launch nears.

So, while nothing is set in stone about a State of Play event for this month, we can be sure Sony's got a lot of games on the way. All we need now is to wait.
