A lot of the disappointment stemming from the miserable season the Chicago White Sox are having points back to manager Tony La Russa. His poor decision-making has been costly and the team looks disengaged overall. Still, players are coming to his defense. Liam Hendriks is the latest one to do so.

As chants of “Fire Tony” become more and more regular at White Sox games, Hendriks says the clubhouse is happy with La Russa and that the players need to pick it up, according to Vinnie Duber of CHGO. He added that people are forgetting that La Russa is a Hall of Famer.

“We appreciate everything he’s been doing in this clubhouse. We know the amount of effort, the amount of work that goes into his decision-making. I mean, the guy’s a Hall of Famer. I don’t think people remember that, and that’s unfortunate.

“There’s a reason he’s in the Hall of Fame. It’s because of those decisions that he made, it’s because of weird, odd decisions that have gone (right) in the past, that have worked out. … Right now, he’s making those same choices, but we’re not rewarding him with a winning result.”

Although La Russa has a track record as a great manager across several different teams, it is not showing this season. Currently, the White Sox are third in the AL Central behind the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians. After winning the division, they are in serious jeopardy of missing the postseason altogether. Tons of injuries to key players can be partly to blame but they still have too much talent to be this bad.

The White Sox decided to run back the same team as last year with just a few changes. So far, it has gone extremely poorly. A lot of changes may be coming if they can't right the ship.
