The vibes of the Chicago White Sox remain all the way in the gutter. A supremely talented core of players — which has already lost numerous key contributors for nothing — has amounted to nothing but embarrassment and underachievement. They have made the playoffs twice and lost both series. Trading away some of them to recoup value for the future is in the team's best interests, which would mean saying goodbye to key players like Lucas Giolito and Tim Anderson.

Giolito is one of the White Sox's many players that could be traded if the front office decides to admit that it's time for a rebuild, even a mini one. For now, the 29-year-old said that he is simply focusing on his pitching, according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. He sounds like someone who knows his fate and accepts it.

“I’m cool with it. Whatever happens, happens,” Giolito said of the upcoming MLB trade deadline, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “Same thing I’ve been telling you. It’s not really on the forefront of my mind when it comes to when I’m here and I’m getting ready to pitch and I go out and pitch.”

Giolito has a 3.79 ERA and 131 strikeouts across 121.0 innings this season and is garnering interest from various suitors. Down years from Lance Lynn and Dylan Cease has made Giolito extra important to the White Sox' rotation but he is a free agent after the season. Chicago has to keep an eye on the future because the present is miserable. This means parting ways with Giolito in the hopes of landing the right prospects.

The White Sox have a record of 41-60, which at least puts them in line for one of the top picks in the next draft. Although Luis Robert has emerged as one of the very best outfielders in all of baseball, Chicago is not close to winning anything in the near future, even in the weak AL Central.

Trading Giolito would allow him the chance to be on a legitimate playoff team again and make the future outlook a little less bleak. It’s not fun but it's the best path forward for the White Sox.
