The White Sox make the trip to the other side of Chicago to face the Cubs! These two teams have been at varying levels of bad this season. The White Sox are the worst team in baseball, while the Cubs had struggles closing games out and with their offense. Our MLB odds series has our White Sox-Cubs prediction, odds, and pick for Wednesday.

The White Sox are the worst team in the MLB currently. They have a 15-45 record so far this season, and they have lost 11 straight games heading into this game. They are the worst team in the MLB behind the plate and are also struggling on the mound, ranking second to last and only in front of the Rockies. Gavin Sheets, Paul DeJong, Andrew Vaughn, and Andrew Benintendi are standouts despite the offense being awful, while the only notable pitchers in the lineup are Erick Fedde and Garrett Crochet. The White Sox have struggled across the board this season, but this might be a good matchup because of how much the Cubs have struggled themselves.

The Cubs have a 29-31 record this season. They have struggled to find any consistency of late behind the plate. Their bats have struggled so much to the point where they have dipped down as one of the worst offenses in the league. In comparison, their pitching is in the top half of the league. On offense, Michael Busch, Cody Bellinger, Nico Hoerner, Ian Happ, Christopher Morel, Michael Tauchman, and Dansby Swanson make up an inconsistent and struggling offense. Shota Imanaga, Javier Assad, Ben Brown, and Jameson Taillon are standouts in pitching staff that have had to carry them at times due to the offensive struggles. The Cubs have struggled and can not hit, so their pitching needs to carry them in this game, but a matchup against the White Sox might be exactly what they need.

Why The White Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win

The White Sox are starting Erick Fedde as a pitcher in this matchup and he has a 4-1 record, a 3.12 ERA, and a 1.18 WHIP. He has allowed 25 runs on 60 hits with 22 walks and 66 strikeouts. In his 12 appearances this season, the White Sox are 5-7. Fedde has genuinely been the biggest bright spot for a team that has struggled so much on the mound this year. He gets a decent matchup in this game because the Cubs have fallen off a cliff on offense behind the plate.

The offense for the White Sox has been awful this season. The White Sox are dead last in the MLB in team batting average at .214 which comes after having .238 last season. Gavin Sheets and Paul DeJong lead the way for the offense in most categories. Sheets leads the way in batting average at .237, in RBI at 22, in OBP at .343, and in total hits at 41. DeJong then leads the way in home runs at nine. The White Sox offense is going to struggle in this game against Jameson Taillon on the mound for the Cubs.

Why The Cubs Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Cubs are starting Jameson Taillon on the mound where he has a 3-2 record, a 2.84 ERA, and a 1.26 WHIP. He has allowed 20 runs on 44 hits with 12 walks and 29 strikeouts through 44.1 innings. In his eight starts this season, the Cubs are 4-4. Taillon has been great for the Cubs and has needed to be great because of how much the Cubs have struggled on offense. He is one of the better pitchers in their lineup and gets a very favorable matchup against an offense that has struggled as much as the White Sox.

The Cubs' offense has gone from inconsistent to struggling this season. They are 26th in team batting average at .228 after finishing last season with a .254 batting average. The offense is led by Cody Bellinger, Nico Hoerner, Christopher Morel, and Mike Tauchman lead the way in most of the batting categories. Morel leads the way in home runs at 10 and in RBI at 35. Bellinger leads the way in batting average at .265, Tauchman leads the way in OBP at .366, and Hoerner leads the way in total hits at 53. They also get a more difficult-than-expected matchup against Erick Fedde for the White Sox.

Final White Sox-Cubs Prediction & Pick

The White Sox are the worst team in the MLB, but the Cubs have not been consistent at all. The Cubs have all the advantages in this game at pitcher with Taillon, with their offense behind the plate, and with the game at Wrigley Field. It will be close because of Fedde, but the Cubs will win and cover at home in this game.
