Kenan Thompson explains why he barely mentioned his divorce from Christina Evangeline in his memoir When I Was Your Age: Life Lessons, Funny Stories & Questionable Parenting Advice from a Professional Clown.

Kenan Thompson and Christina Evangeline were married for 10 years before their 2022 divorce. They share daughters Georgia Marie and Gianna Michelle. According to TMZ, the former couple was separated for one year prior to Thompson's divorce filing. In a new interview with Hoda Kotb on Today, he told her that he didn't write “much” about their divorce in his memoir. “I didn't really want to speak out of turn on people who aren't there to tell their vision of the story as well,” he said on Today Dec. 4. “So, I just kind of told my perspective, basically.”

In his memoir he spoke about he loves being a “girl dad.”

“They're my daily focus outside of myself. They are definitely my sweethearts,” Kenan noted. “I love them.”

Previously he told People, how becoming a girl dad has impacted him.

“I've definitely grown and matured in ways that I never imagined,” Kenan added. “And then there were ways that I did imagine that come through, like dropping my kids off at school and what that experience was like, and having things come full circle like that—like watching a big girl do her homework. It's just been amazing.”

According to Harper Books, an imprint of HarperCollins, When I Was Your Age is “an ode to growing up, getting older and wiser, and learning from the school of hard knocks.”

He added that “99 percent” of his life is told in the book and that he tells his whole story “from A to Z.”

“It's been such a joy to write and share my story in When I Was Your Age,” Thompson said in a statement shared with PEOPLE in August. “From All That to SNL, I’ve had a lot of laughs — and learned a few lessons — along the way, and I hope fans will too.”

When I Was Your Age: Life Lessons, Funny Stories & Questionable Parenting Advice from a Professional Clown is out where books are sold starting Tuesday (Dec. 5).
