The Los Angeles Chargers aren't currently sure who will be their quarterback going into 2020. Will they stick with Tyrod Taylor? Or will they sign a veteran?

Well, the player who seems like the best fit is Cam Newton. Newton was recently cut by the Carolina Panthers, and the Chargers appear to be his most logical destination.

I'm not saying it's a perfect fit. After all, Los Angeles just parted ways with Philip Rivers because they clearly felt that he was past his prime. You know, much like Newton is.

But unless the Chargers want to draft a quarterback (which is a possibility), they don't really have many other options.

Look: Taylor is a good backup, but he is not a starter on the NFL level. You aren't going to seriously contend with him. So if LA is looking to win next season, Taylor should not be under center come Week 1.

Newton may have built a rather extensive injury history over the last several years. He's undergone a couple of shoulder surgeries since the end of 2016, while also recently having a procedure to repair a foot issue. But there is no question that he represents a better option than Taylor when healthy.

It's not like the Chargers will have to hand Newton a lucrative deal, either. They can choose to offer him a one-year contract and just go from there.

Chargers Have Superb Supporting Cast

Los Angeles also has plenty of weapons for Newton. It has one of the league's best receiving duos in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Hunter Henry is a budding star at tight end. Austin Ekeler is a very versatile running back.

Yes, the offensive line could certainly use some work. But there would be no shortage of targets for Newton in the aerial attack, and we have seen Newton utilize weapons before. The man won the MVP award back during the 2015 campaign.

At this stage of Newton's career, he should obviously just be searching for the scenario that gives him the best chance to win. While some may argue that the New England Patriots provide him with that opportunity, the Patriots don't seem all that interested in Newton. Furthermore, their receiving corps is barren.

The Chargers, on the other hand, haven't appeared to rule out the possibility of signing Newton. And they actually have a lot of talent at the skill positions that Newton can make use of.

Let's remember that Los Angeles is just two seasons removed from winning 12 games. So if Newton can step in, stay healthy and do his best 2018 Rivers impression, the Chargers could very well have some success in 2020.

No one is expecting Newton to be the 2015 version of himself, as he has clearly fallen off physically. But at just 30 years old, I find it hard to believe that he doesn't have anything left in the tank.

This just seems like the most ideal match for the two sides. The Chargers need a veteran quarterback, and Newton needs a home. Hopefully, they can make it happen.
