ARLINGTON, TX — The Dallas Wings have high hopes for rookie Jacy Sheldon. The Ohio State product was selected fifth overall by Dallas in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She has continued to develop throughout the season.

Overall, the Wings have struggled in 2024. Playing in the WNBA as a rookie brings a number of challenges. Sheldon's progression has been encouraging, though.

On Wednesday after the team's practice, Sheldon took some time for an interview with ClutchPoints and revealed a player she has modeled her game after.

“I actually grew up watching… a lot of people, but Devin Booker specifically the past couple years in college,” Sheldon said. “Just because of his ability to score in different ways. Obviously he's an amazing player on both sides of the floor… His ability to create shots in different ways. I would honestly watch games and rewind and watch what he does. But I'd say him specifically.”

Sheldon also said her teammates on the Wings have played a big role in her WNBA development.

“They've been awesome,” Sheldon said of her teammates. “When they're in your ear and they're telling you to be more aggressive and shoot it, you better do that. I think that just gives you even more confidence. It's been cool to be on the floor with them.”

Sheldon has begun to earn more playing time as the season has continued. She has even started some games in recent action.

Sheldon is averaging 4.4 points per game on 40 percent field goal and 40 percent three-point shooting as of this story's writing. She has also recorded just under two rebounds and two assists per outing.

As mentioned earlier, the Wings selected Sheldon with the No. 5 overall pick in the draft. She displayed signs of stardom at Ohio State which clearly caught the Wings' attention.

Of course, learning from someone like Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker certainly did not hurt matters. Booker has continued to improve in the NBA and he is regarded as one of the best players in the league.

Playing in Dallas now, perhaps Sheldon can watch NBA stars such as Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving as well. Playing alongside one of the best players in the WNBA in Arike Ogunbowale will also help her development.

The Wings' future is bright despite their frustrations in 2024. There is hope for the future with young players like Sheldon on the roster. For now, Dallas will focus on trying to bounce back during the 2024 season.
