The Washington Wizards carved out a win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, 117-115, and it was thanks in large part to another tremendous performance from Russell Westbrook.

Russ was one assist shy from yet another triple-double which prompted a bit of sarcasm from Wizards head coach Scott Brooks:

“I thought he was selfish all night long,” Brooks said mockingly after the game, via Fred Katz of The Athletic. “I don’t like the way he played. Should’ve had another triple-double. Only had nine assists.”

Westbrook finished with 36 points on 13-of-24 shooting, 15 rebounds, and nine assists, while also going 3-of-6 from distance and 7-of-11 from the charity stripe. It was another eye-popping performance from the former league MVP, and it comes as no surprise that coach Brooks had nothing but (satirical) praise for his star point guard.

Bradley Beal was pretty awesome as well, logging 30 points, four rebounds, and six assists. The Wizards' three-time All-Star had a poor shooting night though, going just 10-of-29 from the field and 0-of-9 from the three-point line.

The most important thing here is that the Wizards escaped with the win. They needed an extra period to defeat a persistent Pelicans side, but Westbrook and company were able to manage another win on Friday. That's now three straight wins for Washington and five out of their last six. All of a sudden, a spot in the playoffs in a wide-open Eastern Conference has become attainable for the surging Wizards. I hope we don't jinx it, though.
