Former San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon made waves when it was announced that she would be the first head coach in the WNBA to have a salary exceeding $1 million per year. It was a big milestone for the sport, though it was met with criticism, most notably from WNBA star and the newest member of the Los Angeles Sparks, Liz Cambage, who shockingly criticized the WNBA for handing out a contract to Hammon that was far more than that of a supermax for players in the league. Former women's professional basketball player and current broadcaster Nancy Lieberman called out Cambage for her comments while praising Hammon in the same breath, per Yahoo Sports.

Lieberman, 63, said she loves Cambage, but “I think you have to kind of slow your roll for a minute.”

“[Hammon] is helping you. Because one day when you retire, or somebody else retires, she's going to have set the bar high if you want to get into coaching,” said Lieberman, who has coached in the WNBA, G League, NBA and Big 3 for more than two decades. “And sometimes you can’t see it right now because your focus is being a great basketball player, which [Cambage] is.”

Nancy Lieberman, while being respectful of Liz Cambage, said that she feels that the Sparks star has to “slow her roll” when it comes to her Becky Hammon comments.

Lieberman feels that Hammon's huge salary could one day help someone like Cambage get into coaching. The former WNBA star believes that Hammon is opening doors for younger women, who may not see it for what it truly is right now.

Lieberman, long seen as a pioneer for women's basketball, just wants Cambage to see the importance of Hammon's movement for the WNBA.
