After weeks of NXT performers being mysteriously attacked backstage, with Noam Darr, Wolfgang, Oro Mensah, and Ivar all being taken out of action by some mysterious yet uber-violent figure, “All Ego” Ethan Page revealed himself during the main event segment of NXT, declaring that he was the man behind the assaults before taking out the NXT Champion, Trick Williams, with a running knee.
What gives? Did Page sign with WWE under everyone's noses in the time since his exit from AEW, with a few indie bookings between the two contracts for 3XW, Xcite, Clash, and Revolver, as a sort of farewell to the roads he came up riding? Or did this come together incredibly quickly, with someone else potentially filling that role had Page not been available? Well, in a special video posted on his social media pages, “All Ego,” let it be known that he actually isn't signed to WWE on a long-term deal and could theoretically show up anywhere if he wants to should the promotion not come correct with a top-tier contract offer.
“Everybody saw what I did last night,” Ethan Page said with a laugh via 411 Mania. “Literally, everybody. We’re talking millions of views across all social platforms. That’s pretty heavy. I’d even say that it’s a bit of buying power for Ethan Page, especially because contrary to popular belief, Ethan Page is not signed with any company or any contract, and I’m gonna just assume that Trick Williams would love to get a little payback and revenge on Ethan Page, so NXT I’m gonna leave this one to you. The ball is in your court, and All Ego is all ears. I’m gonna assume somebody in that company has my number. I’ll wait for the call.”
Alright, is Page just working here, brother, using a seemingly authentic social media video to spin a storyline for Shawn Michaels and company? Well, that depends on who you listen to, as both Fightful and PWInsider have reported that Page signed with the promotion in the last week or so but kept it a secret to make for a better surprise. Still, if that isn't true, or WWE is pushing for something new, why not have Page show up at a few indie shows over the next few weeks to really make things interesting, as that could put him in a territory not seen since CM Punk over a decade ago.

Ethan Page reveals how Cody Rhodes has impacted his career.
Speaking of Ethan Page's decision to leave AEW behind for WWE, a reason he landed in the promotion in the first place is because of the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes, who most likely paid him out of pocket to appear at All In in 2018. Discussing their friendship in an interview with Bragman Breakdown, Page celebrated Rhodes for always looking out for him, noting that he is now very loyal to his friend as a result.
“I don’t know if this is officially confirmed or not, so I don’t know how clickbaity this will be. I’m 99% sure…I’m pretty sure Cody paid me out of pocket. I want to say he hand-selected a few people that he wanted to feature. He put the show on with his buddies. Later on, there was the tie-in with Ring of Honor. Ultimately, my payment came from his name to my PayPal, so I’m pretty sure I was hand-selected by my friend to get this opportunity,” Ethan Page told the Bragman Breakdown via EWrestling News.
“He also put in the media scrum. He was definitely looking out. I’ll always deliver on my end to make sure whoever puts their neck out for me is not doing it in a way that is going to get them in trouble. He definitely put his foot forward for me. Ironically, when I was signing with AEW, he told me that he wouldn’t, because he didn’t want me to be a friend hire, and that’s how I started my career. I respected that. He’s always had my back, and I appreciate him putting me in that because it was such a huge spotlight.”
Now, for fans out of the know, Rhodes and Page actually wrestled together on the indies shortly after the former's release from WWE, with the duo winning the A1 Tag Team Titles in 2017 as 2-Star. If Page can hit this angle out of the park, who knows, maybe he and Rhodes could reignite their pairing on the main roster in the not-too-distant future, parlaying the “American Nightmare” perfectly from his current spot as an unbeatable main event champion to something new.
