Randy Orton was reportedly injured following his match last Friday Night SmackDown against The Usos in a Championship Unification match.

Last Monday Night, Riddle came out alone to address the RK-Bros' loss in the May 19 episode of SmackDown in the Title Unification match against The Usos. Riddle vowed vengeance on the Bloodline, who have apparently injured his partner, Randy Orton. Riddle also mentioned how Orton's back has been bad for a while and that he knows his partner is at home resting.

However, it wasn't immediately clear if Randy Orton's injury is only a part of an angle or if it is a legitimate injury. Orton is known to occasionally take time off the ring as part of his WWE contract, so many speculated that the injury angle is being used to write him off television. Meanwhile, him getting taken down during Friday's Night match didn't cause any concern for the other superstars, the referee, or the commentary team, so everything seemed okay after the match.

WWE made an official statement earlier today announcing that Randy is “currently undergoing consultations with neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons to determine the extent of his injury and to recommended course of treatment.”

Riddle would then appear in last night's SmackDown episode teaming up with Shinsuke Nakamura to challenge The Usos once again. Back in WrestleMania, The Usos also beat Shinsuke Nakamura and his tag partner, Rick Boogs, who ended up getting injured in the middle of the match.

The two wrestlers with injured partners teaming up may be an indication that just like Boogs, Orton is also legitimately hurt. Dave Meltzer's earlier pronouncements that Orton is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at Summerslam this July also shows that this might not be work after all, since if it's true that Orton's supposed to face Reigns, then getting him off television now would not make a lot of sense. So, more likely than not, Randy Orton is indeed taking time off to heal an injured back.
