With Will Ospreay‘s time in New Japan Pro Wrestling seemingly coming to an end, as his contract will expire in February of 2024, fans the world over have wondered where “Billy Goat” will wrestle next.

Now sure, on paper, the answer feels incredibly obvious, as Ospreay does have a tattoo of All In‘s attendance on his arm and has been a fixture of AEW storytelling over the past few months despite not being physically present at the shows due to his association with Aussie Open, Don Callis, and beyond, but Ospreay has wrestled for Impact, RevPro, Noah, and beyond as a contracted NJPW talent in 2023 alone, and could theoretically draw interest from any promotion in the world, as he is arguably the best wrestler in the entire world.

Sitting down for an interview with Metro UK regarding his future in the squared circle, Ospreay let it be known that, at this point in his career, all options are on the table, even a move to WWE, which once felt impossible.

“I mean, we have spoke about it more. I’m now open to the idea of stretching myself out that little bit more,” Will Ospreay told Metro. “As age has become more apparent to me and my body is hurting more and more, I’m open to all avenues. I’ve had a lot of talks with my friends about this, and I have spoke to the missus. It’s on the table, that’s all I can really say. That means I am open to all options going forward.”

Asked about the dream matches still on his resume, Ospreay named off a few of the obvious options before turning his attention to a “Visionary,” a “Revolutionary,” a man still curiously known to fans the world over as Seth “Freakin'” Rollins.

“Someone like Adam [‘Edge’] Copeland or Bryan Danielson comes in [to AEW], and suddenly I’m tagged in everyone’s d*mn tweets being like, ‘The dream match is with Ospreay.' It’s a pat on the back for me, and I’m eternally grateful for it,” Ospreay noted. “But now it’s time for me to really gauge and see what’s out there. So, the Seth thing does intrigue me quick a lot. I heard him say in a promo, his 100% is the best in the world. My 50% is the best in the world, so if you actually got me at 100% I think you’d drown in these waters, mate.”

Would it be interesting to see Ospreay make his way to WWE? Most definitely, especially considering his past comments, but in professional wrestling, stranger things have happened. If WWE comes correct with the best offer for Ospreay and his family don't be surprised if a deal gets done.

Will Ospreay wasn't always so open to signing with WWE.

While the idea of Will Ospreay in WWE is an enticing one, as it would allow him to work a less demanding style and remain one of the best performers in the world like AJ Styles before him, there was a time in the not-too-distant past when the “Commonwealth Kingpin” was very disinterested in taking his talents to The Fed, as he explained to WRESTHINGS back in May.

“I have no aspirations of going to WWE, at all. It's not because of the product or anything, I'm not a fan of it, I will happily say, but my lifestyle, I never wanted to be the big star pro wrestler. Japan allows me to do a tour and come home and live my family life. If anybody has ever spent more than a couple of days with me, family to me is everything. I love my mom, I love my dad, no shame in saying it. Love my nan and granddad and will bend over backward and fold myself in half for those guys. If you are part of that friend circle that I consider family, I'll do the exact same thing. It's important for me to have those breaks away from wrestling to be able to live that life because one day I wish to be like my dad or granddad or even my mom because they are the people that made me,” Will Ospreay told WRESTHINGS via Fightful.

“I want to do that one day. New Japan, for me, is the enhancement and the focus is professional wrestling. I'm not doing storylines where I have this guy slept with my girlfriend or whatever or we have a wedding angle or kidnapped by ninjas. I know, from the outside, I'm a guy that does a lot of flips and whatever, but I'm a wrestler and I like professional wrestling. I don't mind the odd love triangle angle, but there is nothing better than when the bell rings and there are two guys wrestling and telling wonderful effing stories. The moment the bell rings, you have one of two feelings; that was amazing, can't wait for the next match.

“Throughout my time in New Japan, I love the company, inside and outside, that place has done incredible things for me emotionally, mentally, and physically. It's broken down my body because the matches are extremely difficult, but the boys have looked after me. For that, I have nothing but love for that company.”

Is it possible that Ospreay has had some magical reversal after watching Paul “Triple H” Levesque oversee a few more Premium Live Events? Eh, maybe so, or maybe Ospreay simply wants to maximize what might just be the best opportunity of his career to land an incredible contract that sets his family up forever. Either way, if both WWE and AEW are on the table, Tony Khan and Nick Khan are going to have to bring their best offers to the table.
