The New York Yankees take on the Toronto Blue Jays Monday night for the start of a three game series. This game will continue our MLB odds series with a Yankees-Blue Jays prediction and pick. We will also let you know how to watch the game.

The Yankees have already beaten the Blue Jays in a series this season. In those three games, the Yankees won two. They hit .261 as a team in those games with four home runs. Two of those home runs came off the bat of Giancarlo Stanton while Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo hit the other two. Anthony Volpe led the team with five hits in the series, and he stole three bases. On the mound, the Yankees allowed 13 earned runs while striking out 25, and walking 16.

The Blue Jays shut out the Yankees in the first game of their series, but they had a lot of trouble the next two. On the mound, the Blue Jays finished the series with a 5.76 ERA. They struck out just 24 batters, and walked 17, as well. At the plate, George Springer led the team with four hits in 13 at-bats. Ernie Clement scored three runs in the three games played, as well. As a team, the Blue Jays hit just .229 in the three games, but they did smack 10 doubles.

Luis Gil will get the start against Chris Bassitt to open up this series.

Why The Yankees Will Cover The Spread/Win

Gil has thrown the ball well for the Yankees. He has not gone a full five innings in either of his first two starts, but he definitely could have. In his first start against the Blue Jays, Gil went 4.1 innings, allowed just two runs on two hits, and struck out eight batters. He had some really good stuff in that game, and he needs to have a repeat performance if the Yankees want to open this series in the win column.

Gil does a great job missing barrels and inducing weak contact. The average exit velocity off him is just 85.6 MPH while his expected opponent batting average sits below .100. He is becoming a pitcher to watch, but he has to go deeper into games. If he can go five or six, the Yankees will have a great chance to win this one on the road.

Why The Blue Jays Will Cover The Spread/Win

Toronto has some work to do if they want to win this game. For starters, Bassitt has got to throw the ball better. He did start to turn it around in his last start, though. Against the Seattle Mariners, Bassitt threw 6.2 innings, allowed just one run on five hits while striking out eight. This is the kind of performance he has to have in the series opener Monday night. If Bassitt can do that, the Blue Jays will get the win.

Final Yankees-Blue Jays Prediction & Pick

This is going to be a close game. Bassitt is the more accomplished pitcher, but Gil has been great this season. The only question is whether or not Gil can keep it up. I think he can, so I will take the Yankees to win this game.
