It's been almost a decade since New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter decided to hang up his cleats, but he has ascended back to the mainstream this year with the recent release of ESPN's documentary centered on the former MLB shortstop's life and baseball career.

The seven-part documentary offers a rather more complete look at the background of Derek Jeter from his days in New Jersey to the time he was growing up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The documentary also exposed to a national audience the gradual changes in Derek Jeter's hairstyles through the years, and the baseball Hall of Famer even took notice of it.

Derek Jeter retired in 2014 with the only team he had played for during his 20-year career in the MLB, the Yankees. He finished his career with 3,465 hits, 260 home runs, 1,311 RBIs, and a batting average of .310 plus an endless array of highlights on defense.

The first episode of The Captain aired Monday night and with the next episodes released to be released on July 21, July 28 (episodes 3 and 4), August 4 (two episodes), and August 11.

Jeter was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 2020 with a 99.7 voting percentage — the second-highest ever, behind former Yankees teammate Mariano Rivera.
