The New York Yankees have desperately needed a shot in the arm for the last two months, as the lineup has struggled outside of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. However, outfielder/second baseman Jazz Chisholm could be just what the doctor ordered.

The Yankees acquired Chisholm from the Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon, via ESPN's Jeff Passan.

“BREAKING: The New York Yankees are finalizing a deal to acquire outfielder Jazz Chisholm from the Miami Marlins, sources tell ESPN,” Passan reported.

The full deal, via Alden Gonzalez:

Chisholm, who's under team control through 2026, is slashing .249/.323/.407 with 13 homers and 50 RBI this year. New York hasn't decided where the 26-year-old will man the field, though, via SNY's Andy Martino.

“Sounds like it’s not totally finalized what position Jazz Chisholm with play for Yankees, but they see value in utilizing his versatility,” Martino tweeted.

Catching prospect Augustin Ramirez is one of the players heading to Miami, via The New York Post. There are also two other prospects included that have yet to be named. Ramirez is hitting .269 with 20 homers, 69 RBI, 18 stolen bases, and a .862 OPS in Triple-A this year.

Will this trade be worth it for New York?

With Soto's impending free agency this winter, New York was under pressure to make an aggressive move ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline. While most of the lineup has struggled, left fielder Alex Verdugo and second baseman Gleyber Torres have been especially unreliable, and Chisholm could replace either one of them going forward.

Although the speedster has never played third base, the Yankees might put him there as well, via CBS Sports' Jim Bowden.

“The #Yankees really like Chisolm positional flexibility with the idea he can play CF 2B and they think 3B too,” Bowden said. “He cane [came] up as a SS…he profiles as a future 30/30 type offensive igniter….Yankees player leadership and influence led by Judge and Soto should really take his gane [game] to another level.”

Torres, who's on a contract year, may keep his spot if he continues turning a corner. The native Venezuelan was unplayable in his last 18 games before getting benched, slashing .159/.247/.318/.564. However, he has hits in 15 of the 19 games since returning to the lineup.

Verdugo, however, has yet to get back to his regular form. The former Boston Red Sock is hitting .178 in July, which comes after a .219 performance in June. He also committed a brutal error in left field to gift the Baltimore Orioles a walk-off win before the All-Star break.

At third base, Chisholm would replace both DJ Lemahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera. Cabrera recently took over for LeMahieu, who's hitting .178 with just one homer and 12 RBI on the season. Cabrera has been better, sporting a .247 average with five home runs and 29 RBI. However, Chisholm has more than double the dingers of both players combined and can take advantage of the short porch in Yankee Stadium as a lefty hitter.

With Giancarlo Stanton nearly done with his rehab, New York could have a new-look lineup by Monday.
