The New York Yankees take on the Boston Red Sox. Our MLB odds series has our Yankees Red Sox prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Yankees Red Sox.

The New York Yankees look like a heavyweight team once again. In 2022, they won their first 50 games with lightning-quick speed and were 64-28 at the All-Star break. They had a real chance at a 110-win season, which would rate among the best in MLB history. They looked like a juggernaut and were steaming toward their first World Series appearance since 2009. Then they stalled out. They were a .500 team (35-35) in the final 70 games of the 2022 regular season. They did just enough to reach the 2022 American League Championship Series, but then the Houston Astros swept them into the offseason.

Not since early July of 2022 — when the Yankees were 36 games over .500 — had New York looked like a truly elite team. The group we have seen in the first two and a half months of the 2024 season has brought the magic back to the Bronx.

The two leaders in the American League MVP race are both Yankees. Juan Soto, after a disappointing and brief tenure with the San Diego Padres, is playing like a superstar in New York. He and Aaron Judge are — alongside Shohei Ohtani, Bobby Witt Jr. and Gunnar Henderson — two of the five best players in baseball right now. Soto and Judge are so good and so tough that the Yankees are 50-23 even though Anthony Rizzo is still battling back from a concussion which has hijacked his career, and even though Gerrit Cole has missed the entire season to date and is still in rehab. Soto and Judge have given the Yankees two aircraft carrier-level giants this season. Add in Luis Gil's stunning push for the Cy Young award, and it's clear why New York has instantly buried the bitter memory of last year's season, when the Bronx Bombers were thoroughly mediocre and lucky to avoid a losing campaign.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The Yankees are an elite team. They look like one. They are playing like one. They went into Kansas City and threw around the talented, hungry Royals like a rag doll. With Juan Soto and Aaron Judge both playing the best baseball of their careers, it's very hard to take two of three against New York. Boston won on Saturday. Good luck to the Red Sox on Sunday in their attempt to win this series. You wouldn't want to bet on it given the way New York is performing.

Why The Red Sox Could Cover The Spread

The Red Sox were superb on Saturday in their 8-4 win over New York. Let's see if that strong performance carries over into Sunday, as Boston tries to make a push for an American League wild card spot. The Red Sox have frankly done well this season. Their record (near .500) might not indicate as much, but the pitching injuries this team suffered before the season began created real doubts about Boston's ability to stay afloat. Yet, Boston has indeed stayed afloat and is still in the postseason hunt. This team has done well with its limitations.
