The Washington Commanders have put themselves in a decent spot to get back into playoff contention. Although the quarterback position is still a concern, this team is ready to make some noise in the upcoming season. However, this franchise could be taken more seriously if they add a little more firepower to the defense. We take a look at two moves the Commanders must make to finalize their roster in the 2022 NFL Draft.
It'll be interesting to see the season play out for Washington. With Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson leading the way, the offense is in good hands moving forward. The addition of Jahan Dotson will go a long way in helping the pass offense improve. However, the main concern for this roster is the defensive side of the ball. If the front office can make the right moves heading into training camp, the Commanders will feel much more comfortable for the 2022 season.
The two areas of concern are the inside linebacker position and the secondary. Although the front office reeled a ton of prospects, none of them are likely to make an immediate impact on this defense. For that reason, it would be a smart decision for Washington to acquire some veteran help.
With that said, here are two moves the Commanders must make to complete their roster after the 2022 NFL Draft.

2. Acquire a veteran inside linebacker
Overall, the front seven is rather solid. The defensive line has the potential to be one of the best in the league, especially once Chase Young returns healthy. However, the inside linebacking core could use an extra boost to help the defense overall. Considering most of the linebackers are young, a veteran signing would be a brilliant move for the Commanders.
Jamin Davis and Cole Holcomb are likely going to be the starters in the 2022 season. However, the defense could use a veteran leader to play a rotational role. Not only can this player contribute to the Commanders' defense, but he can be utilized as an on-field coach for the prospects entering the league.
A couple of names that stand out are Dont'a Hightower and Danny Trevathan. Hightower would likely demand more playing time, as he could take over the starting role over Holcomb. Meanwhile, Trevathan can serve as a solid rotational backup for the Commanders' linebacking group. Washington can't go wrong with either of these signings, so look for the front office to acquire a linebacker out of free agency.

1. Sign James Bradberry
The secondary is the main concern for Washington. They haven't been a great group in recent years and it's time for the front office to change that. Luckily for the Commanders, there are several cornerbacks available in free agency that would make a great fit on this defense. Considering the front seven is solid, signing the top cornerback available would be massive for this franchise.
Luckily for Washington, the New York Giants recently released James Bradberry. The former Giants cornerback is a solid option, as many see him as the best available player in free agency. Bradberry would be an excellent signing for the Commanders, as he would immediately improve the secondary for this roster.
James Bradberry could be a difference-maker for Washington. He's the exact type of player the Commanders need in the secondary, as his 47 total tackles, 17 pass deflections, and four interceptions would have been incredibly helpful last season. Look for the front office to make a move, as Bradberry is not going to remain in the free agency pool much longer.
