It's looking like a transitional year for the Green Bay Packers. With Mike McCarthy out and a new regime in, many players will be on the chopping block. Long-time outside linebacker Clay Matthews is one player that is in danger of losing his roster spot.

The Packers could choose to get younger on defense, and Matthews had just 3.5 sacks in 16 games last year. Before that he had at least five sacks in every year of his career, and he's still capable of playing at a high level.

Matthews is set to be a free agent next month, and it's unclear if he'll be back in Green Bay next year.

Assuming he's not, here are the three best free agency destinations for the UCS product after 10 seasons with the Packers.

3. New York Jets

The Jets are one of many teams that will be desperate for pass-rushing help this offseason. Recent reports have New York sticking with a 3-4 defense even with Gregg Williams coming on board as defensive coordinator, and Matthews could slide in as an outside linebacker.

Williams loves to be aggressive and send a ton of pressure, which could help Matthews up his sack totals. Matthews would also be a great locker room presence on what will be a pretty young team, and can help mentor some of the young players on New York's defense.

2. Miami Dolphins

There was a rumor a few days ago that Matthews could be heading to Miami, and it makes perfect sense. The Dolphins had one of the worst pass-rushes in the league last year, and don't have a ton of talent on defense. New coach Brian Flores will be looking for some veteran leaders to help with his transition, and Matthews fits the mold.

The Dolphins are openly tanking next season, so Matthews might not want to spend a year helping a team lose. But if he's open to the idea, he'd be a perfect mentor on what should be a very young and inexperienced team.

1. Los Angeles Rams

The Rams are another team that could use help at outside linebacker. Unlike the Dolphins, they'd provide Matthews the opportunity to win now and chase another ring. The Rams have a ton of talent on defense, but most of it isn't at edge rusher.

They were playing a lot of inexperienced players like Samson Ebukam and John Franklin-Myers as their main outside pass-rushers last year, and could use an upgrade. The Rams' front office hasn't shied away from splashy acquisitions, so they'd definitely be open to the idea of Matthews.
