The 2021 MLB offseason has gotten off to a quick start and quite a few big names have already switched teams. Most recently, Max Scherzer signed with the New York Mets and Javier Baez agreed to a huge deal with the Detroit Tigers. However, there are still quite a few elite players still available on the free agency market, including Anthony Rizzo, who has a lot of possible destinations.

The New York Yankees free agent first baseman is one of the top players left for teams to sign, but his market has been relatively quiet thus far.

Rizzo has been one of the league's biggest superstars for years. He is known for being a slugger and a Gold Glove first baseman. He fared well with the Yankees following his trade from the team he won a World Series with, the Chicago Cubs.

In 92 games with the Cubs last season before the trade, Rizzo batted .248 to go along with 14 home runs and 40 RBI. Following his trade, Rizzo played in 49 games with the Yankees and compiled a .249 batting average to go along with eight home runs and 21 RBI. Those numbers show how valuable Rizzo can be, even if they weren't his best.

Now, let's take a look at three potential intriguing free agency destinations left for Anthony Rizzo.

Anthony Rizzo Free Agency Destinations

3. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers could offer Rizzo a short-term deal instead of going long-term. They could also go long-term with it, but Rizzo may want some freedom to get another big deal in a couple of years. The team is losing quite a bit of talent in free agency and adding a bat and defensive talent like Rizzo could make some sense.

Rizzo would be signing with the Dodgers on a lucrative deal, whether that be short or long-term, but would also be joining a legitimate championship contender. Even though the Dodgers are losing talent in free agency, they are still going to be a team to be reckoned with in the National League.

Every year, the Dodgers look to make big splashes whenever they can. Rizzo would be exactly that kind of move, especially if they strike out on landing Freddie Freeman. This could be a situation to watch as the offseason progresses.

2. Chicago Cubs

There is a very familiar team that Rizzo could end up signing with. Jed Hoyer and the Cubs have been very quiet so far in free agency, with Wade Miley, Yan Gomes, and Clint Frazier as their biggest moves. Going out and signing the former face of their franchise to handle that role once again would make a ton of sense.

Rizzo is a fan favorite in Chicago and would be welcomed back with open arms. There are some questions about this potential fit, especially with the Cubs front office not offering Rizzo the extension he wanted, but those issues could be ironed out. A return to the Windy City would be something very special for Rizzo, who clearly didn't want to leave to begin with.

This may not be a super likely option, but it's one that would make sense for both parties. The Cubs would get a big bat and a franchise leader while Rizzo would have a daily starting job and play in the city he loves again. It's a win-win scenario that both sides should consider pursuing.

1. New York Yankees

The most likely and best option for Rizzo would be to work out a new deal with the Yankees. It's a bit surprising that the two sides have not been more engaged on a new contract. New York has been looking around at other first base options, including Matt Olson from the Oakland Athletics.

Despite the Yankees looking elsewhere and Rizzo not having a ton of communication with the team, this is the most likely end for both sides. Rizzo enjoyed his time with the Yankees last season and it has been reported that he would love to return to the Big Apple. If that is truly the case, and the Yankees know how valuable Rizzo can be for them, a reunion should happen at some point.

The Yankees should be a serious World Series contender once again next season. Keeping Rizzo would help them reach that goal. If the money is right, a return to the Yankees on a long-term deal is an ending nobody will be surprised by.
