It's been a busy offseason for the Los Angeles Chargers as the front office has reeled in a plethora of talent. This team should be competitive and make some noise despite playing in a loaded AFC West division. If they hope to stand out from the rest of the pack, LA is going to need some guys to step their game up. With that in mind, we look at three potential breakout players for the Chargers' 2022 season.

Considering the defense is essentially nothing but studs, it's more likely some young talent on the offense will prove themselves. It'll be interesting to see how the season plays out, as the Chargers have a great chance to make a deep playoff run. Even so, there are three players on this roster who are in a unique position to become major contributors to the offense.

The Chargers would greatly benefit from a surprise running back to help Austin Ekeler in the backfield. Additionally, LA has a chance to be one of the best passing offenses in the league with Justin Herbert under center. For that reason, Los Angeles might have a strong third pass option within the roster. Lastly, a rookie offensive lineman could prove to be the steal of the draft.

Chargers Breakout Players For The 2022 NFL Season

3. Isaiah Spiller

Taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Isaiah Spiller finds himself in a favorable situation to start his career. Austin Ekeler is undoubtedly the starting running back in LA, however, he does need help carrying the workload. The other players in the Chargers' backfield have failed to live up to expectations, giving Spiller a real opportunity to become the main backup option for Los Angeles.

He'll have to earn that role though. Larry Rountree III and Joshua Kelley will fight for reps as well. Additionally, they have a little more experience than Spiller right now considering they've been on the roster for a tad longer. Even so, Isaiah Spiller will be given plenty of opportunities to prove himself in minicamp. Keep an eye on the rookie running back, as the Chargers may have finally found a competent backup for Austin Ekeler.

2. Jalen Guyton

He's shown flashes of potential throughout his career so far but now is the time to become a consistent pass option for Justin Herbert. With Keenan Allen and Mike Williams likely taking most of the attention, Jalen Guyton can become a legitimate third option for the Chargers. It also helps he has a superstar-caliber quarterback throwing him the ball, giving Guyton plenty to work with.

Keep an eye on him in training camp, as he is not a guarantee to be the third option for the Chargers. However, he is the likely favorite to win the role. If he performs well, then the coaching staff will reward him with legitimate playing time. If not, then a different receiver could make an impact for LA.

1. Zion Johnson

Zion Johnson is a first-round pick with a ton of potential. He's set to be the starting right guard in the offense and could elevate the offensive line play in general. We watched Rashawn Slater take the league by storm last season as a rookie. Based on his production, it wouldn't be a shock to see the Chargers hit back-to-back home runs with their first-round selections.

Johnson can help the rushing attack improve, especially in goal-line situations. Additionally, he provided to be a reliable pass blocker throughout his collegiate career as well. This kid has all of the potential in the world, which is why he is on the radar to be a breakout player for the Los Angeles Chargers.
