The Washington Football Team walked away with the victory after a thrilling matchup against the New York Giants. Many were unsure how the game would play out, as quarterback Taylor Heinicke filled in for an injured Ryan Fitzpatrick. After a strong performance on Thursday night, the question must be asked, is Taylor Heinicke the real deal?

Heinicke threw for 336 yards and two touchdowns off of 46 attempts. The game scripts called for a heavy passing game, as Washington had to do anything to keep the score close. He stepped up when his team needed him most and looked like a legitimate starting quarterback.

We've seen Taylor Heinicke play in limited action throughout his career. However, when his number has been called upon, Heinicke delivers. Additionally, he looks calm in the pocket and doesn't seem to panic, which is huge. Lastly, he's been spreading the wealth to his receivers, which is essential for success in the NFL. With that said, here are three reasons why Taylor Heinicke is the real deal for Washington.

Is Taylor Heinicke the Real Deal?

3. Heinicke has shined in the biggest moments

First, it was last year's playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that put Taylor Heinicke's name on the map. Then, we witness him dice up the Giants' defense during a prime-time game on Thursday night. He's been on the center stage twice now, and both times, Heinicke has put on strong performances.

Washington elected to not draft a rookie, and instead signed veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. This allowed Heinicke to compete for a job in the NFL. Although he initially lost the camp battle, his recent performances in games might have the coaching staff considering naming Heinicke the starter moving forward.

2. He looks poised under pressure

The Giants brought the heat throughout the evening, but Heinicke seemed unbothered. Although New York is down 0-2, their defense is actually legit. Heinicke did throw a fourth-quarter interception that could have been costly, but it was more of a great play by the defense than it was a bad read by Heinicke.

We'll see how he performs against the Buffalo Bills, who gave Ben Roethlisberger problems in Week 1. If Taylor Heinicke can put on another big performance, then Washington may have found their franchise quarterback in the most unconventional way.

1. Spreads the wealth to his receiving core

Everyone was eating on Thursday night, especially Terry McLaurin who ended the evening with 11 receptions, 107 yards, and one touchdown. Washington's top receiver played like the best player and the supporting cast played their role as well. Logan Thomas, Adam Humphries, and JD McKissic each reeled in five or more receptions. Additionally, Ricky Seals-Jones snagged an impressive 19-yard touchdown that showed off Heinicke's accuracy.

This is essential for the Washington Football Team to succeed. With Heinicke spreading the wealth and Antonio Gibson serving as a consistent running back, this franchise has the tools to compete with anyone. The defense looked suspect on Thursday night though, but if they can make the proper adjustments, this team should be heading to the playoffs as the best franchise in the NFC East.
