Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is entering a big season with more expectations placed on him. He was strong during his first season, but there was still a learning curve adjusting to the NFL. This season, the expectation is that he will take the next step forward and help the Bills win a lot of games.

There is more to Allen than just what he does on the field though, so let's look at four things you should know about him.

4. Loves to do charity work

Like many NFL players, Allen has done a lot of charity work since coming into the league. A lot of people love the fame that comes with playing in the NFL, but what he loves most is getting to use his platform to help others who might be less fortunate. He also told Tim Graham of The Athletic that he loves to take a little extra time out of his day to try and make the kids day.

“That’s probably my favorite thing about the platform I have. A small gesture can change somebody’s day. Any time I’m at training camp or out in the public, every kid out there I try to give them at least a high five or sign an autograph. I always looked up to professional athletes, and I’ve seen a couple before. Going to games and just wanting a high five (Allen smacks his hands together) … “I’m never going to wash my hand again!” I was that type of kid who loved sports.”

3. Had zero scholarship offers out of high school

Growing up, Allen was a huge Fresno State fan and tried to do everything in his power to get an offer, but had no success doing so. In fact, Allen had no FBS or FCS scholarship offers and only had interest from San Diego State. The Aztecs offered him a walk-on spot on the team, but couldn't guarantee any playing time so he decided to go a different route.

Allen attended Reedley College which is a JUCO level school and finally, teams started to take notice. He became a three-star recruit out of Reedley College and eventually decided to attend Wyoming.

2. Also played basketball and baseball

Allen was a very good football player in high school, but he was also a standout in baseball and basketball. He was the leading scorer on his high school basketball team and could throw a 90 mile per hour fastball in baseball.

One of the big reasons he didn't get recruited was because most coaches didn't see him a lot because of how much basketball and baseball he played.

Instead of playing 7 on 7 he was playing baseball and basketball because he had a love for all the sports.

1. Grew up on a farm

Allen grew up on a farm and during High School, he was very involved in FFA. In 2014, he finished top four in the country in his production of wheat, cotton, and cantaloupe.

He helped his parents growing up with the farming and his dad Joel thinks it's a big reason why he has made it as far as he has.

“It taught him responsibility and made him aware that nothing’s just going to be handed to you,” Joel said. “You’ve got to go out and work for it. He caught on at an early age. He really did.”
