San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is officially in the NFL record books. McCaffrey became the only player in league history to score a touchdown in 16 consecutive games. He pulled off the impressive feat against the Minnesota Vikings on MNF in Week 7.

Christian McCaffrey scored on a three-yard touchdown run on second and goal with one minute left in the first half. His touchdown put the 49ers on the board against the Vikings.

Unfortunately for McCaffrey and Co., Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins connected with Jordan Addison on a 60-yard touchdown before halftime. Consequently, San Francisco entered the second half starting at an 11-point deficit.

McCaffrey struck again with a 35-yard touchdown reception from Brock Purdy in the third quarter. His second touchdown of the game trimmed the deficit to 19-14. McCaffrey has racked up 809 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns after that score.

Christian McCaffrey re-wrote the NFL record books on MNF

Christian McCaffrey almost never made history on MNF after he suffered an oblique injury in the first half against the Cleveland Browns in Week 6. Without McCaffrey and wide receiver Deebo Samuel, the 49ers lost for the first time this season.

Fortunately, McCaffrey's oblique injury wasn't serious enough to make him sit out the game against the Vikings. Despite Christian McCaffrey suiting up, San Francisco is in danger of losing its second straight game of the season.

Christian McCaffrey eclipsed several Hall of Famers on his way to scoring a touchdown in 16 straight games. He tied Dallas Cowboys great Emmitt Smith's streak of scoring a touchdown in 14 consecutive games two weeks ago. On the other hand, Hall of Fame 49ers wideout Jerry Rice gave credit to McCaffrey for breaking his franchise record of scoring a touchdown in 12 straight games. However, Rice felt he could've extended his gaudy streak had he had more touches.

Will Christian McCaffrey extend his touchdown streak against the Cincinnati Bengals next week? Stay tuned.
