Unfortunately, this may have just been a false alarm for the fans. A few days after said video went viral, Tom Pelissero reported that both the 49ers and Deebo Samuel have not reached an agreement on a potential contract extension. In fact, it's still unclear whether the wide receiver will report to the training camp!
Samuel broke out in his third year in the NFL for the 49ers with a groundbreaking performance. Kyle Shanahan utilized the full potential of the wide receiver, deploying him both in his natural role and as a running back. As a result, Samuel saw a huge increase in his production last year.
It seemed certain that Deebo Samuel would get paid in the offseason. However, the market for wide receivers skyrocketed this year. Players like Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams signed massive new extensions in the offseason. As a result, Samuel's price rose as well, a price that the 49ers seem unwilling to pay for their young wide-out.
