Expansion has been one of the main topics of discussion in the college sports world this summer. Teams have already swapped conferences and more are expected to do so in the near future. We have seen schools such as Oklahoma, Texas, USC, and UCLA already make jumps from one conference to another. The SEC and Big 10 have dominated most headlines in reference to expansion, but ACC commissioner Jim Phillips doesn't want to be ruled out.

Phillips commented on potential expansion for the ACC, per ESPN's Andrea Adelson.

“I will tell you that while the ACC is strong, we are continually evaluating all options that could further strengthen our conference and we are engaged in ongoing dialogue with our media partners. All options must be carefully evaluated.”

He later commented on the schools they already have and the prospect of adding Notre Dame to the ACC.

“I love our 15 schools and I'm confident in us staying together,” Phillips said. “They know how we feel. If there comes a time that ND would consider moving to a conference away from independence, I feel really good about it being in the ACC.”

Phillips also addressed the possibility of an expanded college football playoff.

“The ACC continues to be supportive of an expanded College Football Playoff. I'm confident our concerns will be addressed and a new model with greater access will ultimately come to pass.”

Jim Phillips is clearly open to expansion in the ACC. With that being said, it doesn't seem to be a top priority. The ACC is a strong enough conference as is… but adding a team such as Notre Dame would be beneficial.

One would imagine that an expanded playoff would be of interest for Phillips and the ACC. That would provide more teams with an opportunity for national media attention.
