The Kansas City Chiefs fell to conference rival the Oakland Raiders on Thursday evening. In what many will consider iffy officiating toward the end of the game, the (relative) upset can largely be pinned on such a thing. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, however, did his best to not flip his lid during the postgame presser.

Still, he did manage to let some things slip.

“Had a few penalties down the stretch there that got us,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “It’s a shame it came down to that, right? Let the guys play there. Let them settle it right there on the field.”

Kansas City lost the game to Oakland, 31-30 loss at the Oakland Coliseum.

During what appeared to be an offensive interference called by a referee, the Raiders scored the go-ahead touchdown late. An official, despite several Kansas City players signaling as if a penalty was going against its opponent, would pick up the flag.

“I’m not going to comment on that –– I mean, they’re trying to do their best job,” said Reid, who seemed annoyed by the call on the field. “Whether I agree with it or not, it doesn’t really matter. The call stood and that’s what it was.”

Alex Smith felt similarly about the amount of flags hurled toward the end of the game.

“I hate seeing all the flags at the end,” Smith said. “That’s the one thing –– you want to let your guys play and you don’t want the refs involved, as much as possible.”

With the AFC West being as touch a division as there is in the NFL, this lack of quality officiating could come back to bite the Chiefs in the rear at the end of the same. Only time will tell, though.
