Respawn Entertainment scheduled the release of the latest skin line based on the fashion brand Chinatown Market for today. Plans changed when the clothing line announced a massive rebrand. Respawn swiftly responded to change by delaying the upcoming Apex Legends skins. The Sundown Desperado skin for Bloodhound and the Mic Check skin for Lifeline won't enter the game in their current form but at least Respawn caught the change before they released them.

APEX LEGENDS AND AWARENESS

The surprise change to the famous brand's name came after repeated cases of violence against members of the Asian American community in America. The fashion brand's awareness to quickly and effectively make monumental changes deserves respect. The famous Chinatown Market branding drew inspiration from the Chinatown area of New York. However, as the company succinctly stated, the name is not theirs to use.

Chinatown Market promised to announce the brand new name “in the coming months.” The company failed to comment on the likelihood of continuing its collaboration with Apex Legends. Additionally, the fashion brand concluded by pledging the proceeds from its existing products to be donated to non-profit organizations supporting the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.

“The Asian American community is rightfully demanding all of us think and act more honestly.”

Clothing brands collaborate with esports titles all the time. Unfortunately, real-life collaborations open up the door to complications. Fortunately, Apex Legends developers Respawn responded to the issue properly by rightfully delaying the skins. Additionally, they promised to return the skins in the future with a “fresh look.”

Undoubtedly, the announcement caught Respawn off-guard. The Bloodhound Sundown Desperado first made rounds online this past weekend. Subsequently, the Lifeline Mic Check skin was announced just yesterday. It definitely translates to more work for the Apex Legends developers but it's a necessary step especially considering the current situation in the Asian American communities.
