Romelu Lukaku's nightmare Chelsea tenure is finally over for the time being. The Belgian striker has joined AS Roma on a season-long loan as he reunites with his former boss Jose Mourinho.

According to the reports from Fabrizio Romano, there is no option to buy the player as he will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of this season. “AS Roma fans were incredible to me — I can’t wait to get started. The owners here have huge ambitions”, Lukaku said.

It has been a remarkable turn of events for Lukaku in his professional career. Only two years ago, he came to Chelsea from Inter Milan for a club-record fee of £105m. Just three months later, he fell out with then-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. Shortly after the end of the season, he returned to Inter Milan on loan, which wasn't successful as he struggled with injuries and inconsistencies.

Now, he has managed to join Inter Milan's rival AS Roma. We will be very interested to see how Lukaku gets received by the Inter Milan fans when AS Roma plays at the San Sirro. For the third time, he will be managed by Mourinho, who also coached him at Chelsea and Manchester United. The Belgian will reunite with Chris Smalling and Nemanja Matic, who played with him at Manchester United.

For Mourinho, he now has a wealth of attacking talent. He had already signed Andrea Belotti, Tammy Abraham, and Paulo Dybala. With Lukaku, he will have an alternative way of attacking opponents. Most importantly, Mourinho will have the depth required to go deep in Europe and other domestic competitions. AS Roma lost last year's Europa League final to Sevilla on penalties.
