Bad Boys: Ride or Die is off to a great start. Not only at the box office is it a hit, but it landed extremely well with NBA legend LeBron James, too.

The movie stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as a pair of Miami cops who go on a dangerous mission to clear their late police captain's name. It had a massive opening weekend, snagging the top spot and bringing in $56 million at the domestic box office and an additional $48.6 million internationally—making the total $104.6 million, according to PEOPLE.

LeBron is one of the many moviegoers who contributed to its success, and he posted a rave review about how good it was.

“Movie is SOOO DAMN GOOD!!” the NBA champ said on X. “The cinematography is INSANE! Will and Marty Mar connection is undefeated! Action packed, funny as hell and simply just a great watch!”

The film brought in way more than projected and gave a nice boost to the movie industry, which has suffered a number of setbacks and flops. Beyond that, it helps Will Smith by restoring some faith in him after the notorious Oscar slap, which hurt his reputation. It's the actor's first major theatrical release since the incident.

Smith and Lawrence's film momentum also includes some positive reviews from critics and moviegoers. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has an Audience Score of 97% and a Tomatometer of 63%.

The last time we saw the duo was in Bad Boys for Life, which opened to $62 million domestically in January 2022 and eventually made $426 million at the global box office, according to THR.

It's one of the first official hits of the summer. Also in the running is The Garfield Movie, which has banked nearly $200 million globally. Ryan Reynolds's movie IF also pulls in some good numbers, with a total global tally of $160.7 million. Finally, the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is globally at $359.8 million.

LeBron James is no stranger to movies

Though he probably won't land a career as a movie critic anytime soon, James has had success in the movies.

In 2023, he was in the comedy House Party as himself. Prior to that, he starred in Space Jam: A New Legacy. The movie was about a rogue AI who kidnaps his son, who works with Bugs Bunny to win a basketball game.

Critics panned the film, giving it a 25% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the audience was kinder to the lighthearted film, giving it a 79% Audience Score.

For now, we're guessing LeBron will stick mainly with the NBA and playing for The Lakers. Though retirement hasn't been out of the question playing professional basketball, he seems pretty content with his day job for now. Plus, it pays rather well.
