Baker Mayfield is having a weird few days. The Oklahoma Sooners were upset by the Iowa State Cyclones, with the winners then planting its state flag on OU's field. Following that, for reasons lost on us, Baker Mayfield decided to hurl some shade at a Texas Longhorns quarterback.

What else could he possibly be up to?

Welp. A lot, apparently, as he is currently talking about how Oklahoma, despite losing to Iowa State, still controls its own destiny as far as the College Football Playoff is concerned.

“The biggest thing for us is realizing that we still have it all out in front of us,” Mayfield said, as reported by ESPN. “It's in our own control. It doesn't matter what anybody else does. If we win out and take care of our business, I have all the confidence in the world that we could end up in the playoffs — and we should.”

Eh, I get it. Can't be a Negative Nancy here. But still, the “we should” part is a bit of a weird thing to believe, if it is in earnest.

“This is still Oklahoma,” Mayfield said. “We're still a top-15 team. And I guarantee you we'll be on top toward the end.”

Oh, I get it now. Because they are Oklahoma, the Sooners get the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway, I kid. I actually love this kid for all the reasons I am poking fun at him. His ability to say what is on his mind, even if it might be slightly bias, is good for the sport of football.
