It's looking like 2020 could be Mitchell Trubisky's last chance in the Windy City. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Chicago Bears will not pick up Trubisky's fifth-year option. Meaning that, barring an extension, the quarterback will become a free agent after next season.

Trubisky has not exactly worked out like the Bears hoped.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of North Carolina, was originally selected by Chicago with the second overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, ahead of both Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson.

Trubisky went on to make 12 starts during his rookie campaign, throwing for 2,193 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 59.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 77.5.

The following year, Trubisky showed marked improvement. He played in 14 games and finishing with 3,223 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 picks while completing 66.6 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 95.4 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance. In addition, he rushed for 421 yards and three scores and led the Bears to an NFC North division title.

Going into 2019, Trubisky was viewed as a potential breakout candidate by some, but instead, he actually took a step backward, throwing for 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 63.2 percent of his passes and recording a passer rating of 83.0 in 15 games.

As a result of Trubisky's struggles in 2019, Chicago went out and traded for Nick Foles earlier this offseason.

Trubisky and Foles will compete for the starting quarterback job, and if Trubisky ends up losing, he probably won't have a future with the Bears beyond 2020.
