The Chicago Bears surprised everybody right before training camp by placing Chase Claypool on the PUP list. With camp beginning on Monday across the NFL, teams are still considering adding pieces to fill out the roster. The Bears also hosted wide receiver Isaiah Ford for a workout, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Source: WR Isaiah Ford worked out for the #Bears this morning. Ford, the former Virginia Tech standout, was originally drafted by the #Dolphins in 2019 and spent last season with the #Colts’ practice squad.'

Isaiah Ford isn't the flashiest name by any means, but bringing him in a day after Claypool landed on the PUP is certainly interesting timing. Ford spent four seasons with the Miami Dolphins before he landed on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. Ford was traded by the Dolphins to the New England Patriots during the 2020 season but was waived before even playing one game and then ultimately returned to Miami.

Ford's best statistical campaign came in 2020 when he caught 28 passes for 276 yards. In his career, he has 63 catches for 681 yards with two scores, both of those coming in the 2021 season, and he has been used as a retuned as well during his NFL days.

The Bears' wide receiver room is pretty stacked with Claypool, new addition DJ Moore, and returning starter Darnell Mooney. So, where Ford sits in remains to be seen, but this is nothing more than a depth signing and maybe a guy who can return some kicks or punts every once in a while.

Still, with training camp underway, the Bears aren't done trying to bring in players to fill out the roster, especially with a few interesting position battles to watch.
