The Chicago Bears have not been one of the teams mentioned as a potential suitor for free-agent running back Le'Veon Bell, but Sirius XM NFL Radio host Pat Kirwan thinks that should change.
Kirwan states that the Bears are ready for a Super Bowl run, meaning that they should make a play for Bell in free agency. He also adds that Chicago does not pick until 87th overall in the NFL Draft next month, so the Bears might miss out on adding a true impact player for next season.
Chicago was a decent team on the ground in 2018, ranking 11th in the league in rushing. The attack was spearheaded by Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen, the latter of which made the Pro Bowl, mainly due to his special teams prowess.
The problem for the Bears in possibly pursuing Bell would be the cost.
Bell is reportedly seeking a contract worth $17 million annually, a price that may end up being far too steep for a Bears franchise that does not exactly have a ton of money to spend this offseason.
The 27-year-old sat out the entire 2018 campaign due to a contract dispute with the Pittsburgh Steelers and also held out through Week 1 in 2017 before returning to rush for 1,291 yards and nine touchdowns while hauling in 85 receptions for 655 yards and a couple of scores, en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.
Throughout his five-year NFL career, Bell has made three trips to Honolulu while earning First-Team All-Pro honors twice.
