The Chicago Bears are on the verge of securing one of their most reliable offensive weapons for the seasons to come. Fourth-year veteran running back Tarik Cohen is currently playing in the final year of his rookie contract signed back in 2017.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport disclosed the developments between the two parties on Twitter:

Tarik Cohen was a fourth-round steal snagged by the Chicago Bears back when they drafted him in the 2017 NFL Draft. He immediately settled in his new team and emerged as a major contributor in the offensive rotation.

Despite primarily playing off the bench, the North Carolina native still tallied an impressive 1,578 all-purpose yards along with four scored touchdowns in his rookie season.

He further bumped his numbers and recorded a total of 1,599 all-purpose yards with eight touchdowns en route to bagging a first-team All-Pro selection along with his first Pro Bowl appearance back in 2018. His statistics dipped last season and was only limited to 994 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns.

The 25-year old remained to be a key cog in the team's scoring attack as he ran 41 yards on seven carries during their opening game of the season against the Detroit Lions. Tarik Cohen's presence will continue to make life harder for opposing defensive lines on the remainder of the season.

With the deadline fast approaching, the Bears are wasting no time on signing the running back ahead of their Week 2 matchup against the New York Giants and are looking forward to including him in the team's plans moving forward.
