Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green has had several setbacks in recent years and his injuries have derailed the progression of his otherwise great career. The former Georgia Bulldog recently took a step closer to making his return back to the gridiron.

Michael David Smith of NBC Sports detailed the developments of Green:

Green was on the rehab field, rather than the regular practice field, but he was running and cutting, according to reporters on the scene.

That’s the first time he’s been seen running since suffering a hamstring injury a week ago.

As a highly-touted prospect coming into the league, Green immediately went to work. Green's 1,057 receiving yards tallied in his rookie season surpassed Cris Collinsworth's franchise record of 1,009 yards set in 1981 for most receiving yards by a rookie. His solid play eventually led him to a selection in the PFWA All-Rookie team in 2011.

He increased his production in year 2 which landed him his first Pro Bowl appearance. In this third year, Green set new career-high numbers in 2013 for receptions with 98, and receiving yards with 1,426, which was the second-highest total in Bengals history.

Injuries started to slow him down in his fourth season but he still managed to record his 4th consecutive 1,000-yard season, finishing the year with 69 receptions for 1,041 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Green continued to defy the odds in 2016 as he still earned his sixth Pro Bowl appearance despite tearing his hamstring early in the season. 2017 marked his most recent trip to the Pro Bowl thus far and has not made it back ever since.

Toe and ankle injuries limited him in the 2018 season and forced him to sit out the 2019 season altogether. His looming comeback attempt will be a vital part of the team's rebuilding cause. Bengals nation is already raring to see a potential Joe Burrow-AJ Green connection come to fruition in the upcoming season.
